biography

Praised for her “ample, gleaming soprano,” Emily Baker is an operatic soprano and passionate music educator in Massachusetts. She made her international debut this summer as a vocal fellow at Opernfest Prague performing at Obecní Dům. Earlier this year, she made multiple debuts with orchestras and opera companies across New England, including Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang with the Keene Chorale and NERO, selected arias with the Torrington Symphony Orchestra, and an evening of opera’s greatest hits with BARN Opera

In August 2023, she performed the Waldvogel in Siegfried and Helmwige shadow in Die Walküre at the Wagner in Vermont Festival with TUNDI productions. In the summer of 2022, Ms. Baker performed the title role in Suor Angelica with Greater Worcester Opera. She also performed as Freia in Wagner's Das Rhinegold and Helmwige shadow in Die Walküre with TUNDI productions in Brattleboro, Vermont. 

In 2020, Emily was set to make her debut as Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte with Windham Orchestra and perform the soprano solo in the Mozart Requiem with the Keene Chorale (VT), both engagements were postponed due to COVID-19.  In the summer of 2021, Ms. Baker was a part of the Russian Opera Workshop where she virtually studied the role of Tatyana in Eugene Onegin.  At Opera Neo, Emily brought “welcome focus” to her performance as Linfea in La Calisto and “set off fireworks” in her concert performances in scenes as Aïda and Rosalinde. In 2018, Emily performed as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with the North End Performing Arts Center in Boston and as Micaëla in Carmen with PanOpera in western Massachusetts. While completing her master’s degree and performance diploma at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Emily performed as Giorgetta in Puccini's Il tabarro, Berta in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Zweite Dame in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. She was the 2014 Indiana District Encouragement Award winner of The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and a Rochester International Vocal Competition finalist.
